19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player won his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after that period of that year.

Victory also means he has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to push for a third set.

He rescued four early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
